Type in either side. The other side updates instantly, and the highlighted side is the one you edited.

Build the linked portal at

Nether: X 100 · Y 64 · Z -150

Exact: 100 / 64 / -150

/tp @s 100 64 -150

How to link portals

Link a Nether portal in three steps

  1. 01

    Read your Overworld portal position

Stand inside the Overworld portal and read X, Y and Z from the F3 screen (Java) or the Show Coordinates option (Bedrock).

  2. 02

    Divide X and Z by 8

The calculator does this for you. Y stays the same, but keep Nether portals between Y 5 and Y 120 so they are not inside bedrock.

  3. 03

Build the Nether portal at the result

Travel to the calculated Nether coordinates and build a new portal there. Going back and forth will now use these two portals every time.

FAQ

Nether portal questions

How do Nether coordinates work?

One block in the Nether equals eight blocks in the Overworld horizontally. Divide Overworld X and Z by 8 to get Nether X and Z, and multiply by 8 to go back. Y is not scaled.

Why did my portal link to the wrong place?

When you enter a portal, the game looks for an existing portal near the converted coordinates (about 128 blocks in the Overworld and 16 in the Nether in Java). If another portal is closer, it links there instead. Build the second portal at the exact calculated spot to avoid this.

Do I need to match the Y coordinate?

Not exactly. Y is not scaled, but the closest portal in 3D distance wins, so keeping a similar height helps. In the Nether stay below the bedrock roof at Y 128.

Does this work in Bedrock Edition?

Yes. The 8:1 ratio is the same in Java and Bedrock. Bedrock uses slightly different search distances, so build the portal on the exact coordinates.

How do I travel fast with the Nether?

Because every Nether block is eight Overworld blocks, a tunnel of 100 blocks in the Nether covers 800 blocks in the Overworld. Build a Nether highway between your portals.

Is the calculator free?

Yes. It runs in your browser and needs no account.
